06-24-06: Ebro Phone Jacks Ron Artest, Xcite Energy Drink Scores at Summer Jam, Night Shift Car Show Opportunity

Quick note: RON ARTEST contacted us shortly before Summer Jam (June 4 @ Giants Stadium) and asked if he could perform on our Festival Village Stage. We said, sure. But I hope he didn't think it was going to be THAT easy with HOT 97. Ron soon became the victim of a "phone jack" courtesy of our own MD/APD/MTV2 star EBRO. Our current #1 and latest adds are listed below along with some recent and upcoming events I think you'll find interesting. Meantime, take a moment to check out this mp3 of WHEN EBRO CALLED RON ARTEST. and told him what HOT 97 had worked out for his Summer Jam performance. This really went down!!! You want to click on this now. Imagine a call that begins with Ebro telling Ron Artest that if he's going to perform at Summer Jam, he needs to let Ebro write his raps! It happened. Check it out. This is one of those things that reminds you why you LOVE radio....

#1 on HOT 97: IT'S GOING DOWN/Young Joc (Bad Boy)

ADDS: DEJA VU/Beyonce f. Jay Z (Sony) * IN THE GHETTO/Busta Rhymes & Rick James (Flipmode/Aftermath/Interscope) * SEXY LOVE/Ne-Yo (Def Soul)

#1 on 98.7KISS-FM: WHEN YOU'RE MAD / Ne-Yo (DefSoul)

ADDS: I Refuse/Urban Mystic (Sobe)

** Great to hear Urban Mystic on the station! Urban Mystic performed a great set a few months back when HOT 97 presented Chris Brown with special guests at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ (where we'll be presenting RIHANNA on Aug. 2). More recently, Urban Mystic made a surprise visit when Lenny Green's KISSING AFTER DARK was broadcasting live from the Copacabana in NYC and performed a couple of impromptu numbers (much to the crowd's delight).

SUMMER JAM - LET'S REVIEW: By now everyone knows how it all went down this year at Summer Jam. Quite possibly the BIGGEST and most impressive overall line-up ever. Mary J, Jamie Foxx, Busta, Jermain Dupree & Dem Franchize Boys, Chris Brown, Three 6 Mafia, Remy, Dipset, the list went on... While some muckrackers might have been disappointed that there was no drama to blow out of proportion, many simply found the positive notes to focus on. Case in point: Kelefa Sanneh's review for the NY Times. The headline said it all: "A Summer Jam That, for Once, Is All About the Music."

And I want to give it up one more time for those artists that truly rocked the Festival Village, our 3 hour event outside the Stadium that once again attracted a crowd of well over 10,000 early birds. JUST LOOK AT THE CROWD (That's Mister Cee on the stage, by the way)!!!! RON ARTEST, JOELL ORTIZ, GC & SOUL MAFIA (that's their lead man, Glenn Cavanaugh, also pictured here), MAINO, DRE, BASj2006festvillcrowdshotceeBY CHAM, BEENIE MAN, and... yup, they came and they SHUT IT DOWN(!!)... NAUGHTY BY NATURE. HOT 97's own (and MTV superstar) CIPHA SOUNDS, HOT 97's own (and MTV Tempo superstar) JABBA, HOT 97's own---and newly anGcnointed Mix Show Coordinator--Mister CEE, Massive B's Bobby Konders, our Who's Next host and overnight watchdog MEGATRON, and the Kingpin himself, FUNKMASTER FLEX, all spent some time hosting and/or mixing on the Festival Stage. The Festival Village stage has quickly become one of the biggest opportunities of the year for up-and-coming and even established artists.

And how was it for our partners who staffed booths in the Village. Judging from the constant crowd at Boost Mobile's booth, you'd've thought that Jay was giving away tickets to one  of his post-retirement concerts. And Digital Life had a line from the very start (and it only grew bigger when Ron Artest stopped by to sign autographs). One company, Xcite Energy Drink, chose Summer Jam to help launch their beverage. And here's what they had to say about the experience:

"Summer Jam with Hot 97 at Giants Stadium was fantastic for the Summer launch of XCITE (Energy Drink)! Our product got into the hands of thousands of fans and celebrities. [Our HOT 97 sales rep] Marc Anastacia and HOT 97 truly OVER-DELIVERED on this event for us. We look forward to a great summer and future with HOT 97!" -- Douglas Friedman, Owner (The Dawson Group, for Xcite Energy Drink

KISS-FM also hosted a major concert recently. The New Jack Swing Newjackswing Concert featuring Guy, Blackstreet, Tony Toni Tone, and others. The sold-out crowd at the Theater at Madison Square Garden was on its feet most of the night dancing to all the songs that took them back in the day. When members of these groups stopped by our studios, neither the KISS Wake Up Club nor HOT 97 's Morning Show with Miss Jones could get enough of them. It was easily one of the hottest tickets that week!

KISS-FM is hosting a cruise on July 11th that is guaranteed to set some waves rolling. The KISS WAKE UP CLUB will host a Spirit of New York cruise featuring a performance by DOUG E. FRESH. There'll be 2 cruises on the Hudson that night, with 6pm and 9pm parties. For more info-cause you know you want to join the Wake Up Club's Jeff Fox, Shaila, Bob Slade, and Talent for this--click here.

Donnell062006show One more KISS comment and then we move on to some CD101.9 news (some would say I save THE BEST FOR LAST)... On Tuesday, June 20, KISS FM PRESENTED THE MARTELL BLEU LIGHT LOUNGE FEATURING... DONNELL JONES (pictured here performing at the event). This was a case of all the stars aligning. I was working late (okay, I always do), "Baby Sam" Selolwane picked up on the 2nd ring (okay, she's always working, too) and with the help of FRONTLINE MARKETING and CONNECTIONS UNLTD. we pulled together a much-desired , much-neeeded, and ultimately much-appreciated "official CD release party"--COMPLETE WITH AWESOME LIVE PERFORMANCE--DONNELL JONES event. "Journey of a Gemini" is the name of the album. And he KILLED IT! KILLED IT! (yeah, his performance warrants repeating). BIG UP to Donnell's DJ DoItAll. Also KISS's own Mixologist DJ CHRIS LOVE. This was a party. And it all went down at SHOW, which--no offense to my MANY club promoter and owner partners--is hands down one of the best and most straight-talking venues to work with (like Glee at Copa!).

And that brings me to one more quick shout-out: SCOTT and TIZA at SHOW! Always love working with Scott. This was my first time working with Tiza but everything promised was delivered. And then some. Wish I could remember the name of the bartender who worked it for the Martell sampling, cause she kept the drinks coming. It is just an awesome club to work with and to present events in (as KISS has learned in the past via events with MICHAEL BAISDEN and our KISS IDOL finales).

We had to TURN PEOPLE AWAY AT THE DOOR for the Donnell party! [At the same time, shame on LQ--and I know it wasn't our contacts there--who promoted a Donnell performance to their massive guest list when, in fact, it was never confirmed and, ultimately, didn't happen. Why confuse your paying customers. Treat 'em with respect and you'll get the same back!] It was a GREAT LOOK for KISS, a GREAT LOOK for MARTELL, and a great look for FRONTLINE and CONNECTIONS UNLTD.

And I have to take a moment to veer off the cue cards, let the teleprompter roll without me, and give some SPONTANEOUS love to DONNELL JONES, who is a) extremely gracious, b) didn't come to Show and "bless" the crowd with a verse and a half of his current hit but instead gave a 4o minute performance and c) apparently later that night at another club was professing how much he enjoyed performing at the KISS/Martell event. And why not? We--and again, I'm talking about KISS, Frontline, and Connections Unltd--put 700 people in that room (for you out-of-towners on my list, that's, how shall I put it, "over capacity."

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT CD101.9 for a moment. The annual cruises are off and running. Once again, BILLY ZAFIROS has put together a stellar line-up for the summer. Let's put it this way (and I quote... probably quoting CD101.9 Brand Manager Brian D'Aurelio...): "Imagine a beautiful summer evening sailing along the Hudson with the majestic view of the Manhattan skyline and the sounds of live music performed by your favorite CD101.9 artists..."

Are you doing it? Eyes closed? What do you hear? I can tell you one thing, this past Wednesday (June 21), TWO SOLD-OUT CROWDS heard DOWN TO THE BONE. And coming up: David Benoit, Mindi Abair, Pieces of a Dream, and Bobby Caldwell are just some of the artists lined up for this summer's series. For more info (that means you, MIGNON, pick a night!), please take a moment and check out the lineup at CD101.9 SMOOTH CRUISE SERIES.

And needless to say there's more. Join CD101.9 in the glorious garden at Tavern on the Green every Wednesday night for a jazzy night under the stars. The 11-piece Tavern on the Green All Star band--veterans of band legends like Jacquet and Duke Ellington--start swinging at 7pm. It's the ultimate New York summer experience!!

EMMIS INTERACTIVE. No clever EW headline necessary there.  the bottom line is that our stations offer some Interactive capabilities that are just unmatched. Unparalleled. Um, Unbelievable (but I'll stopjust short of  "Unprecedented" for the time being). I've had some great meetings with many of the New Media and Digital Marketing Depts. at our label partners in recent weeks. Adam and Perry with the WEA e-commerce group, Nikke Slight at Atlantic, Glenn Frese and Kathy Baker (thank you, JB) at Sony, John Bartleson at Def Jam (thank you, Pecas), and I know I'm going to get some heady insight from Ravid Yosef at Interscope in the near future.

But if you want to know what's going on RIGHT NOW, you should a) check out the  HOT 97 iTUNES SITE, b) check out our HOT 97 Playlist Channel which right now features VP RECORDS' REGGAE GOLD 2006 (this is typically our MOST-VISITED PAGE, so think of all the possibilites), or c) tune in next week if you live in the area or wait until my next blog update--when I'll try to include an mp3--cause DEF JAM (again, thank you, Pecas... this is getting tiring) took advantage of something fairly new we're offering: the TEXT MESSAGING CONTEST SPONSORSHIP.

Each day, Monday, 6/26 through Friday, 6/30, during his drive-time RUSH HOUR mix show, DJ ENUFF will be giving away a DEF JAM PRIZE PACK. The prize packs will include a copy of Rihanna's latest CD, "A Girl Like Me," a copy of the brand new Hector Bambino "El Father CD, "Roc La Familia & Hector Bambino 'El Father' Present Los Rompe Diskotekas" (guys, not for nothing, but next time consider the number of CHARACTERS in the title... we're living in a digital world now), PLUS... A pair of tickets to be part of DJ ENUFF's "Crew in the Crowd" (that means center orchestra, first 5 rows) when HOT 97 PRESENTS RIHANNA & Special Guests on Wed, August 2 at Bergen Performing Arts Center. Listeners will have to TEXT IN to enter. And here's the cool part. The reeeeeeeeally cool part. Everyone who texts in will get a BOUNCE BACK MESSAGE reminding them that Hector Bambino "El Father"'s (again, think about the CHARACTERS) new CD on Roc La Familia is in stores Tuesday, June 27!!

And here's where I need to wrap it up. I wanna thank JAMES GORING at VP for letting HOT 97 present REGGAE GOLD LIVE as part of our WHO'S NEXT SERIES at SOBs. VOICE MAIL was great. And NINO CUCCINELLO at Interscope for jumping at the opportunity and asking us to include ELAN. We did. And he tore it up. Long after everyone'd left (and we ran LATE) and the bar was getting cleaned up and settled, the bartenders were still talking bout Elan's peformance. And Elan brought out ASSASSIN (who also appears on the REGGAE GOLD 2006 compilation and ended up doing a short set of his own). It was all good. Adding to the "goodness," by the way, was our co-sponsor for the night, a brand new liqueur called LICHIDO. A vodka/cognac blend with the essences of lichee, guava, and peach. Needless to say, the Lichi martinis, cosmos and passionfruit combos went over big with the audience. Check it out at Lichido.com. Next Up: we're set to present THE CLIPSE with some hot emerging acts from the local scene on Wed, July 12 at SOBs. In August, still crossing our fingers for KELIS (heard she wants to do it). And we're looking at THE DEY for a Reggaeton night in September.

Finally... NIGHT SHIFT. Same people that bring you HOT IMPORT NIGHTS. They're coming to NEW YORK on August 12 and HOT 97 is their local radio partner. Already spoke to some of you re: artists for the MAIN STAGE. DJ ENUFF, DJ CAMILO, KAST1 and the rest of the Heavy Hitters crew will be holding it down. Gonna feature a set from DJ KAY SLAY, whose new CD drops about 2 weeks later on Koch. It's gonna be crazy. It's gonna be hot. It's gonna be a zoo. If you haven't heard about it, check out NIGHT SHIFT EVENTS. Pitbull n Lil Rob headlined one of their events. Ying Yang Twins, Bubba Sparxxx, and Da Musicianz are holding it down in July at Soldiers Field in Chicago.

05-23-06: SUMMER JAM FESTIVAL STAGE, HOT PRESENTS VIVIAN GREEN, CD101.9 SMOOTH CRUISES

Vivian72 WE GOT NEXT!... HOT 97's WHO'S NEXT LIVE monthly music showcase at SOBs in Manhattan continues tonight (5/23)  with a SOLD-OUT show featuring full band performances by VIVIAN GREEN (pictured) and RAHEEM DeVAUGHN plus live-to-track performances by unsigned artists ROB REALZ, MIKE MILLZ (from the MBK Management roster), and recent KISS IDOL winner KIMBERLY DAVIS.  Right now looking to confirm our June 21 and July 12 headliners for this series, so if you have any suggestions...

And WHO'S NEXT is definitely catching on. Unsigned artists post their music and create profiles on our www.whosnextonline.com site. I'm working on using several of these artists over the summer for festival and parade appearances around the area, basically taking our "who's next" brand on the road.

HOLD THE PHONE! Congratulations to HOT 97's DJ KAY SLAY who scored a full page photograph in NEW YORK MAGAZINE's recent issue celebrating the MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN NEW YORK.  Kay Slay landed on the INFLUENTIALS: MUSIC list.

KISS-FM's BOB SLADE also made the list. He's in the POLITICS: News Powers group.  "These media people change the political game by observing it," the magazine noted, and wrote this about Bob:  "Bob Slade, the host of 'Open Line,' a weekend call-in show on WRKS, is the go-to guy for political talk radio among African-Americans, with guests like DAvid Dinkins and Al Sharpton, and the power to swing an election."

Joell72 PRE-JAM!... I'm also about to wrap-up the line-up for our Summer Jam Festival Stage. The Summer Jam Village has become a huge event in itself, drawing upwards of 12,000 people each of the last 2 years. It'll once again run 3p-6p in the Giants Stadium parking lot, prior to the gates opening for the main event. BABY CHAM is confirmed for the Festival Stage this year,  as is DRE, MAINO, and Who's Next alum JOELL ORTIZ (pictured) and G.C. & SOUL MAFIA. Our live time on the stage is tight, but a few other artists will be added. We'll want to run some of these artists by our festival partners' booths for autograph signing sessions. And I want to welcome DIGITAL LIFE, making their Summer Jam Village debut this year as they gear up for their increasingly popular tech and gaming expo coming up in October.

SUMMER SOUNDTRACK... I also want to thank all of you who supported and provided tracks for our Summer Jam STREET ESSENTIALS 2006 CD sampler this year. It'll be inserted in the XXL-produced Summer Jam program distributed FREE at the concert. MOBB DEEP, BUSTA RHYMES, DA MUZICIANZ, CITTY, LUPE FIASCO, YOUNG DRO, STACK$, THE DEY, RAY CASH, COLLIE BUDDZ, LIL' FLIP, JAGGED EDGE, FONZWORTH BENTLEY, LYFE JENNINGS, DMX, JOELL ORTIZ, and G.C. & SOUL MAFIA are all represented with hot tracks on this compilation, which is hosted by HOT 97's FUNKMASTER FLEX, MISTER CEE, DJ ENVY, and MEGATRON.

This year, I'm trying something a little different to further "incentivize" people to listen to all the great music on the sampler. WE'RE GIVING AWAY A BRAND NEW KIA RIO! Yup. People receiving the sampler are directed to the HOT97.com website where they'll be asked to answer 17 questions (one for each track on the CD). The first entry we pull with all the correct answers will win the car! And we'll pull plenty of runners-up, as well, each of whom will receive a $50 FYE gift certificate (thank you, Jodie Evans at TransWorld).

KISSING AFTER DARK... We've had some GREAT Kissing After Dark live events in recent months, co-presented by SMIRNOFF and its new flavored vodka line. Two months ago, we presented RUBEN STUDDARD with BLACK BUDDAFLY and RAHEEM DeVAUGHN at the Copacabana. Last month, LEELA JAMES tore it up at LQ.  And we're back at the Copa next week (5/31). These are 7p-12m live broadcasts hosted by KISS' Lenny Green. If you have any artists you'd like us to consider for these events,  please don't hesitate to call or email me.

Speaking of LEELA... she's coming back to NYC with a 5/30 appearance at IRVING PLAZA. KISS is supporting this show with giveaways and promo announcements and support on our 987kissfm.com website.

CD101.9 SMOOTH CRUISES are announced!... Some of you have already been calling asking for the SMOOTH CRUISES line-up this summer. Well, here you go:  June 21 DOWN TO THE BONE; June 28 BOBBY CALDWELL; July 5 PIECES OF A DREAM; July 12 DAVID BENOIT; July 19 MINDI ABAIR; July 26 TBD; August 2 BRIAN CULBERTSON; August 9 MARION MEADOWS; August 16 SPYRO GYRA; August 23 THE RIPPINGTONS; August 30 TBD Finale.

This'll be followed up tomorrow with our latest #1s and adds....

04-27-06: SUMMER JAM '06 IS ANNOUNCED

I'll be updating my weblog again this weekend.  The good news is, it's been SO BUSY at HOT 97, 98.7KISS-FM and CD101.9 in recent months that I just haven't had time to do the weekly blog update. Plus, I've been busy making new friends on myspace.

But let's get to the big news.  HOT 97's SUMMER JAM 2006 was announced today. Less than an hour ago, in fact. The whole line-up!!

Tickets go on sale tomorrow. Meantime, I pulled an mp3 of ANGIE MARTINEZ's announcement and you can click here to hear it. This is how it sounded, LIVE ON HOT 97 LESS THAN AN HOUR AGO...

THIS IS IT. CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW. TURN IT UP. THE EXCITEMENT IS ALREADY PERMEATING NYC!

Download sj_artist_lineup_announcement_427.mp3

This will be the hottest show of the year! And no doubt the biggest Hip Hop concert in the world.

By the way, the XXL-produced SUMMER JAM program will once again have a great CD sampler enclosed. The program is distributed free of charge at the event. This year, we've got 17 tracks. Thank you JB at Sony, Nino n Karen at Interscope, James at Violator, Erik at Atlantic, Al and Mark for the Sobe Ent tracks, Joey and co. at TVT, Anthony at El Imperio/Sony, and the 2 "Who's Next" artists we're supporting... Joell Ortiz and G.C. and Soul Mafia. This year, we're tying in a contest which will further encourage people to listen to the CD (as if the music wasn't enough). One grand prize winner will walk--or drive--away with a brand new KIA RIO. And plenty of runners-up will score $50 FYE Gift Certificates. It's all good!

02-08-06: FULL FRONTAL HIP HOP, CD101.9 WINEFEST

ColtraneceeWhat can I say but... where does the time go. I started my first 2006 update 3 or 4 times, putting it on hold each time to wait for a new picture and then a week would go by, another week, etc. Plus it's been crazy busy. So let me start off this first update of 2006 with a picture of my son COLTRANE, proudly posing with HOT 97's hip hop legend-in-residence, MISTER CEE. A few days after this picture was taken in our studios, when I was walking my son to school, all of his first grade friends huddled around me asking for a picture of Cee. Having ended last year on a high note celebrating the release of the Notorious B.I.G. "Duets" CD with an event that Cee helped pull together at Club EXIT (including spending the night before compiling archival footage of Biggie to show on Exit's monitors AND arranging for Miss Wallace to appear at the event, signing copies of her book on Biggie), it made my month to have these kids asking about Cee! Now, before I get teary eyed, on to our current #1s, latest adds, and other craziness going on at CD101.9, 98.7 KISS-FM and HOT 97...

HOT 97

#1 THIS WEEK: GRILLZ / NELLY f. PAUL WALL (UNIVERSAL)

HOT 97 ADDS: LEAN WITH IT, ROCK WITH IT/Dem Franchise Boyz (Virgin) * GETTING SOME/Shawnna (DTP/Def Jam South) * I'M IN LOVE WITH A STRIPPER / T Pain (Jive) * I LOVE YOU / Cheri Dennis (Bad Boy)

98.7KISS-FM

#1 THIS WEEK: EVERYTIME I THINK ABOUT HER / JAHEIM (WARNER BROS)

KISS FM ADDS: NO ADDS

CD101.9 SMOOTH JAZZ

#1 THIS WEEK: MYSTIQUE / RICHARD ELLIOT (ARTizen)

CD101.9 ADDS: TE AMO CORAZON / Prince  (UNIVERSAL/NPG)

CD101.9 WINEFEST! Rafe Gomez mixed and Philippe Saisse performed live at the CD101.9 New York Festival of Wines, which took place Friday, February 3rd at the Marriott Marquis. As always, this was a SOLD-OUT event, once again proving to be one of the hottest tickets in town.

Busta_1 That same night, HOT 97 presented its 3rd annual Full Frontal Hip Hop event at Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. Featured performers included: BUSTA RHYMES, KEYSHIA COLE, REMY MA, and NE-YO. Hosted by ANGIE MARTINEZ. With a "premium ticket" area (including open bar) hosted by MISS JONES and the rest of the Morning Show crew.

Ffhhlaque

The music performances were interspersed with fashion segments, including new looks from AKADEMIKS, AZZURE DENIM, THE FUR DEPOT, GILYARD MANUFACTURING, LAQUE (pictured right), MECCA FEMME (pictured below left), and WHITEBOY CLOTHING.

Ffhhmecca

And of course, there was an after-party at CLUB EXIT, with BUSTA RHYMES taking the stage there at 3:30 for a performance that pleased the crowd for nearly 45 minutes! Thanks again, James Cruz!

Peterwhite Don't miss the CD101.9 Valentine's Day Concert, starring Richard Elliot, Rick Braun and Peter White (pictured),                 Friday, February  10th at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square!

p.s. I mentioned this back in December when we were in the midst of the schedule: One of the coolest campaigns I got to work on recently was for TOWER RECORDS. We used FATMAN SCOOP who was hot off some #1 hits with MARIAH CAREY and MISSY ELLIOTT (yup, that Fatman Scoop, same Scoop who's our midday joc on HOT 97). We headed over to Tower Downtown in Manhattan a few times, played new tracks for customers and then recorded their comments on the new music. THEN... we headed back to the studio and recorded the Tower spots using these actualities. As Scoop put it: THE STREETS DON'T LIE. Great stuff!!

Jaheim KISS FM also has it going on in the concert category, especially as Valentine's Day approaches. We have KEM at the Beacon Theatre on 2/8. KISS is also supporting the ISAAC HAYES show at Irving Plaza on Feb. 25 (postponed from an early date). Our own LENNY GREEN (host of KISS FM's top rated KISSING AFTER DARK in the evenings) will host 2 upcoming shows: an oldies celebration featuring RUSSELL THOMPKINS JR. & THE NEW STYLISTICS, ENCHANTMENT, and BLUE MAGIC at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ on Sunday, Feb. 12. And... JAHEIM (pictured) performing with the LUTHER VANDROSS BAND at the Newark Symphony Hall on Valentine's Day. With guest star MELI'SA MORGAN. We ran a special promotion with Lenny whereby listeners who might not have a Valentine were invited to phone in for a chance to spend an evening with him. 6 winners, each plus a guest, will join Lenny for dinner before the Bergen PAC show, then join him at the concert. And we'll do the same for the Jaheim show, which will include a backstage meet n' greet opportunity.

One of the coolest things right now is happening at hot97.com. It's our ONLINE FASHION SHOW supporting FULL FRONTAL HIP HOP. Click here to go to the homepage. You'll see a Full Frontal banner across the top and an invitation to click to see the fashion show. It's a must. Check it out! Another example of the unique capabilities our websites offer. Hot looks from MECCA (these MUST be seen), the exciting new line LAQUE, Gilyard Manufacturing, Whiteboy Clothing, and others.

Real quick, I want to thank MARK GREEN at the BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER for enlisting HOT 97 to co-promote its  show on January 6. CHRIS BROWN, TREY SONGZ, NE-YO, and YUMMY. It was a sold out show! Hosted by DJ ENUFF. And it was HOT. Check out the crowd shot here. The screaming never stopped. In fact, we realized that those screams we're hearing are the Jersey fans SCREAMING FOR MORE! So we're coming back for round 2. HOT 97 & Bergen PAC present CHRIS BROWN with special guests on Friday, March 17. Hosted by Hot 97's Heavy Hitter DJ ENUFF. By the time you read this, the show will probably be sold out!

And earlier that week, on Monday, March 13, KISS FM presents EARTH WIND & FIRE at the BERGEN PAC. Our last event with EWF, held at the Nokia Theatre in New York City, was an instant sell-out. And we expect the same for this show.

Blackbuddafly HOT 97's WHO'S NEXT LIVE Music Series at SOBs kicked off 2006 with a show on January 31. We be featured RUSSELL SIMMONS MUSIC GROUP/DEF JAM recording artists BLACK BUDDAFLY and DJ GREEN LANTERN. Co-sponsored by the new HUSTLE & FLOW DVD. Hosted by MEGATRON.  I'd sure love to have GOVERNOR & JOHNTA AUSTIN perform at one of our events in the near future. WHO'S NEXT is a monthly live music event HOT 97 hosts at SOBs. Previous shows have featured artists such as JOHN LEGEND, ELEPHANT MAN, I WAYNE, M.I.A., MARTIN LUTHER, 9TH WONDER & BUCKSHOT, and JAGUAR WRIGHT. Each event also features unsigned artists, usually recruited from our whosnextonline.com site.

UPCOMING EVENTS: HOT 97 teams up with mun2 for its "mun2 on the Road" party coming to Show nightclub on February 28th and featuring live performances by Machete artists including Hector "El Father." Music by HOT 97's Mun2_preview International Club King DJ CAMILO... CD101.9 is gearing up for an instore signing featuring BRIAN SIMPSON on Friday, March 17 at the Borders in Columbus Circle... HOT 97's been broadcasting live from Club Exit a lot these days. This Friday, it's Mister Cee and DJ Envy, live from Exit, featuring a performance by DEM FRANCHISE BOYZ...  And we're gearing up for a round of KISSING AFTER DARK live broadcasts on 98.7 Kiss-FM. Once a month beginning in March. I'm looking for the right clubs (with ISDN lines) to host these events which typically take place on a Tue or Wed and run 7p-12m. Also looking for labels that want to put some of their R&B artists in front of a crowd...

One Final Word... our next BIG events on HOT 97 include APRIL FOOLS DAY COMEDY JAM, always a sell-out at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden... and SUMMER JAM (yup, it's getting to be that time again). I'll be working on the Festival Stage for the 3rd year in a row, pulling together the live performance line-up and fashion segments as well as compiling the Summer Jam "Street Essentials" mixtape that's distributed to all the attendees. Time to start thinking about that! So talk to me...

As always, I can be reached at 212-367-1641. I always love feedback. Hit me back here in the comments section or email me direct cnadler@emmisny.com. AND PLEASE, FEEL FREE TO FORWARD THIS TO OTHERS. Meantime, take a moment to check out our station websites if you haven't already (the links can be found on the side of this page).

Have a great rest of the week....

Here are our #1 songs on HOT 97, CD101.9, and 98.7 KISS FM. Then read on to find out what else is going on and coming up at NY's hottest stations...

But first, real quick... A lot of people've been asking about the day D-BLOCK came by Angie's show and went off on Diddy. You can check out the interview on hot97.com (plus other hot interviews). But to make it even easier for you, you can click here and check out this "historic" (Angie's words) moment in hip hop radio: Download angie_dblock.mp3

FASHION DESIGNERS & BRANDS ARE COMMITTING IN RECORD TIME FOR HOT 97'S FULL FRONTAL HIP HOP! AKADEMIKS, ARTFUL DODGER, GILYARD, H3, LAQUE (thanks for hook-up, Seitu Hart!), and WHITEBOY CLOTHING are among the fashion lines that have already committed to participate in Hot 97's 3rd annual FULL FRONTAL HIP HOP music & fashion event. I've heard some of the artists being considered to perform at the event and it feels like another surefire SELL-OUT. The event is going down Friday, February 3, 2006 at Hammerstein Ballroom.

If you're a designer or brand and haven't been contacted yet, please don't hesitate to call me at 212-367-1641. There is a fee to participate, as the designer package includes substantial on-air exposure throughout January on HOT 97 plus an online fashion show on HOT97.com that will run for 1 month(!). There's more to it, too. So, again, don't hesitate to call.

MORE FASHION! HOT 97's Full Frontal Hip Hop event has quickly proven to be a listener--AND CLIENT--favorite.  In 2006, we're planning a back-to-school fashion event, as well, some time in the summer.

Ashanti SAM GOODY WELCOMES ASHANTI! The Angie Martinez-voiced spot promoting ASHANTI's appearance at Sam Goody seems to be running every hour. ASHANTI will be signing copies of her new, just-released CD "Collectables" beginning at 3pm this Saturday, 12/10, at the Sam Goody in the Broadway Mall in Hicksville, NY. Fans have been picking up her CD all day long at select Sam Goody locations so they can get a wristband guaranteeing them a place in the line. Plus, the first 100 ladies in line with the wristbands will get a FREE bottle of Ashanti's new fragrance, Precious Jewel.

Fatmanscoop05 FATMAN SCOOP IS HEADING TO TOWER RECORDS! HOT 97'S MIDDAY PERSONALITY FATMAN SCOOP will be spending some time at TOWER RECORDS DOWNTOWN in NYC this coming Tuesday, 12/13 and again on 12/20. He'll have a DAT recorder with him and will be playing new music for random customers and recording their immediate feedback. These real-customer actualities will then be incorporated into Fatman Scoop-hosted radio spots for TOWER RECORDS. On  the 13th, the HOT 97 Street Team will also be there to collect a toy bin (hopefully filled with new toys for deserving children), part of HOT 97's Operation HO HO Ho.

CAROL'S DAUGHTER! HOT 97 and 98.7 KISS FM were both excited recently to welcome CAROL'S DAUGHTER back on the air with customized packages that included specialty show sponsorships as well as, on KISS, a very cool spot voiced by our own Lenny "The Loveman" Green. If ever a sound seemed to epitomize Carol's Daughter's product lines, it's Lenny's, familiar to millions of listeners in the NY market from his #1 rated Kissing After Dark shift on KISS.   Carol's Daughter learned the benefit of live reads and sponsorship tags the other day.  After a simple "This portion of the Morning Show is brought to you by Carol's Daughter" tag read by DJ Envy, Miss Jones decided to share her quite favorable experiences using Carol's Daughter products. Okay, maybe the reference to the scarring from her "first liposuction" was a little too much information. But not on our morning show, where Jonesy is not afraid to let it all hang out! Anyway, click here to check it out. Download carols_daughter_sponsorship_1205.mp3

Carol's Daughter is also a partner in HOT 97 's aforementioned Operation Ho Ho Ho. Their new Harlem location (125th St bet. 5th & Lenox) will have a bin for toy drop-offs. The HOT street team will be there on Thursday, Dec. 15 to pick it up. That's the same night Carol's Daughter will host a FANTASIA book signing beginning at 6pm. So if you're a FANTASIA fan--or know any--spread the word!

Maryj IT'S MARY J. ALL THE TIME! HOT 97  will be hosting one of its EXCLUSIVE In-Studio events with MARY J. BLIGE. Catch it on the air Monday, Dec. 19, the night before Mary's new CD, "The Breakthrough," drops.  And on the 20th, the HOT 97 Street Team will join MARY for her instore CD signing at FYE on Ave. of Americas in NYC.

Davekoz_454_2 CD101.9 WELCOMES KOZ & FRIENDS!  CD101.9 presents the CD101.9 HOLIDAY CONCERT starring DAVE KOZ, KIRK WHALUM, PATTI AUSTIN, DAVID BENOIT and JONATHON BUTLER. It's a SOLD OUT show this Monday, Dece. 12 at the NOKIA THEATRE. That's right, SOLD OUT. The only way to get tickets right now is on cd1019.9.

Also on the CD101.9 front... Looking for somewhere to have brunch on Sundays? Got some friends or family in from out of town? Join CD1010.9 every Sunday at the BLUE NOTE, the world's finest jazz club and restaurant. Enjoy world class jazz and Sunday brunch every Sunday at 12:30p and 2:30p.

One last Shout Out!... To VIRGIN MEGASTORE UNION SQUARE. For once again hosting the annual KISS COAT DRIVE on Friday, December 2. It was a LIVE broadcast from 6a-12m, featuring the Kiss Wake Up Club, Kesha Monk, Lenny Green, and, doing a special LIVE evening shift... Michael Baisden.

Everyone, have a great rest of the week! And a terrific weekend.

11-29-05: ERIC BENET, CAROL'S DAUGHTER, KISS COAT DRIVE

Kisspartybenet

98.7 KISS FM hosted a Listener Apreciation Party on Monday, Nov. 21. This is a picture of ERIC BENET on stage. Really, it's a picture of the crowd--approx. 3,000 strong--that he performed to that night. Thank you, Exit Nightclub! Can't wait to come back with a Michael Baisden event some time... More on the party below. First, as always, our current #1s and Latest Adds...

HOT 97

#1 THIS WEEK: WINDOW SHOPPER / 50 CENT (Shady/Aftermath/G Unit)

ADDS:  ONE WISH / RAY J (Sanctuary); JUST A TOUCH / 50 CENT f. PAUL WALL (Koch); DO YOUR THING / CAM'RON f. NICOLE WRAY (Asylum); CONCEITED / REMY MARTIN (SRC)

98.7KISS-FM

#1 THIS WEEK: SHAKE IT OFF / MARIAH CAREY (DEF JAM)

ADDS:  BE WITHOUT YOU / Mary J. Blige; GOTTA GO / Trey Songz; I REMEMBER / Meli'sa Morgan; MAGIC / Charlie Wilson

CD101.9 SMOOTH JAZZ

#1 THIS WEEK: SUEDE  / MARION MEADOWS (HEADS UP)

ADDS:  PACIFICA / Michael Lington (Rendezvous)

THE KISS LISTENER APPRECIATION PARTY Monday, Nov. 21, was a busy day for KISS. We started out at J&R MUSIC WORLD with a live broadcast of KESHA MONK's 10a-3p shift. That included an appearance by ERIC BENET, who performed 2 songs live in the store, then signed copies of his latest CD, "Hurricane" (featuring the hit, "I Want To Be Loved"). He also spent a little time on air with Kesha. Later that night, the main event was at NY's biggest nightclub, EXIT, as KISS hosted its first ever Listener Appreciation Party. All of our jocs were out in full force! And the KISS mixers kept the dance floor shaking.

Plus there were the live performances. TREY SONGZ. MELI'SA MORGAN. FREDDIE JACKSON. And ERIC BENET.  Despite the rain, approximately 3,000 people came out. We had to open the client/station personnel "VIP" area on the 2nd floor to accommodate the crowd. It was a great night celebrating what has been a record period for KISS. With major accomplishments that couldn't have been made without the (growing) support of our listeners.

Special thanks to all the artists who performed as well as everyone at Exit, Zambrana Productions, and HAPPY LEWIS and CHRISTIE JORDAN at WARNER BROS;  DWIGHT WILLACY, MORACE LANDY, and KYSER at ATLANTIC; LISETTE RIOUX at ARTEMIS, and VIRGIL THOMPSON at ORPHEUS MGMT.

OH! I WANT TO WELCOME CAROL'S DAUGHTER ON THE AIR with us. HOT 97 & KISS-FM. Looking forward to the FANTASIA instore book signing on December 15th at their new CAROL'S DAUGHTER lcoation in Harlem (125th & 5th)!

FULL FRONTAL HIP HOP 2006 HOT 97's 3rd Annual FULL FRONTAL HIP HOP music & fashion event is coming up Friday, February 3rd. That's right. We've moved it up a month this year to coincide with NY Fashion Week. Considering last year's event featured performances and/or appearances by JENNIFER LOPEZ, DADDY YANKEE, FABOLOUS, FANTASIA, TI, and OMARION, this should prove to be one of the biggest events in the city during Fashion Week. And for participating fashion brands/lines, it makes so much sense because we're putting them in front of ACTUAL CONSUMERS. And last year's event was a SELL-OUT. Already on board this year: AKADEMIKS. And GILYARD CLOTHING. And newcomers H3, who also plan to unveil their HIP HOP SODA SHOP in Times Square some time soon. Plus, it looks like WHITEBOY CLOTHING will be joining the event, as well. It's gonna be another sell-out! And what a great opportunity for designers and brands to get their clothes in front of ACTUAL CONSUMERS.

98.7 KISS FM COAT DRIVE The Annual KISS CARES COAT DRIVE goes down this Friday, December 2nd at VIRGIN MEGASTORE UNION SQUARE. This will once again feature a live broadcast from 6A-12M! It's the KISS FAMILY! We'll start with the Wake Up Club from 6a-10a, then Kesha Monk from 10a-3p. Lenny Green will host from 3p-8p. Then Michael Baisden is appearing and broadcasting LIVE FROM THE MEGASTORE himself from 8p-12m! Last year, KISS collected 13,000 coats for needy kids and adults. Can you help us top that number this year?!

WHO'S NEXT HOT 97's WHO'S NEXT LIVE MUSIC SERIES presented TRU LIFE last week at SOBs. Thanks to Gilly and to everyone at Roc La Familia for coming out and supporting this. And congratulations again, Jaz! Also performing were PAPOOSE (with DJ KAY SLAY!) and 10 of the hottest unsigned acts from Funkmaster Flex's Unsigned ARtist DVD. This month, looks we're going to tie in with SOB's and present DWELE as part of our series on Dec. 11.

Plenty more to talk about but I wanted to get the new #1s and Adds out sooner rather than later this week. Congratulations to JUELZ on his first week sales, by the way!

Next week, I'll have an mp3 of one of those infamous conversations a few weeks ago with the Lox, Puffy, and Angie Martinez!

10-21-05: JANET JACKSON BOMBSHELL ON HOT 97

Scroll down cause there's a link to an mp3 here!!

I know I just sent out an update yesterday but today was a BUSY day on the MORNING SHOW WITH MISS JONES on HOT 97.

MISS JONES learned about a DVD out there with BLACK ROB threatening her. More on that next week.

She also had YOUNG DEBARGE on. AND... and by the time you read this you might have read about it in the papers or seen it on ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT... but she asked about the rumor that JANET had a daughter back when she was with JAMES DEBARGE.

YOUNG DEBARGE CONFIRMED IT.

I wanted to get this out earlier but our phones have been OFF THE HOOK.  I'm off to see CHRIS ISAAK tonight and I'm already running late. But I just got out of a meeting and can't believe all the emails and phone calls I have from people asking about this and wanting to know if it really happened.

Wanna hear how it all went down. Click here and you'll get the highlights: hereDownload janet_jackson_baby_bombshell.mp3

"RED-HOT KISS-FM broke Lite-FM's 6-year run as the city's top-rated adult radio station this summer..." That was the lead in David Hinckley's NY Daily News article on Tuesday. And this was BIG news, needless to say. "For the first time since spring 1999," Hinckley noted, "WLTW wasn't first among 25- to 54-year-olds. WRKS 998.7Kiss-FM) took that spot, thanks largely to [the Wake Up Club morning show] and Michael Baisden's racy 'Love, Lust and Lies' in the afternoon."

HOT 97 remains #1 with listeners 18-34 with a 9.8 share and #1 with teens with a 16.5 share! * The Morning Show with Miss Jones moves from a 7.8 share in the spring book to an 8.2 share in the summer. The morning show also maintains the #2 position with tens with a 17.1, just 0.6 away from Z-100. * Middays--now hosted by FATMAN SCOOP--move from a 7.2 share in the spring to an 8.9 share in the summer! HOT middays are #1 with teens, too, with a 16.1 share! [boy, the exclamation points are going to get worn out on this update] * ANGIE MARTINEZ remains #1 in 18-34 going from a 9.0 share in the spring to a 9.7 share in the summer. Surprise, surprise, Angie's also #1 with teens, locking in a 17.2 share! * And FUNKMASTER FLEX needs to take a victory lap for another #1 18-34 finish. Flex had an 11.3 share in the spring and goes up to a 12.3 share in the summer! * Finally... weekends. Forget about it. HOT 97 had a 9.5 share with listeners 18-34 in the spring and now has an 11.1. Good for ANOTHER FIRST PLACE FINISH. HOT Weekends were also #1 with teens with a 17.1 share.

CD101.9 is celebrating its third straight "up" book as it continues to reclaim its smooth jazz position in the market place. And these latest numbers don't reflect the current "Trip a Day or 1K" contest that's been blowing up the phones (which bodes especially well for the NEXT book)!

Now on to some of the special events and activities that help drive those ratings and keep those listeners loyal....

KISS's LENNY GREEN--whose "Kissing After Dark" evening shift is #1 with A25-54 and #3 with listeners 18-49(!)--hit the recent 10TH ANNUAL BERMUDA MUSIC FESTIVAL with Music Director JULIE GUSTINES. Reported Julie: "Arrived there Thursday and headed straight to the Dockyard where the festival was taking place. Saw JOSS STONE and, as usual, she was on fire! Love her and her performances.  Either I missed it or she did not sing 'Spoiled.' Regardless, the audience loved her. She was interacting with them the whole night. Band was off the hook." Lenny and Julie hung out backstage and got some quality interview time with AL GREEN, which they aired the following night when KISSING AFTER DARK BROADCAST LIVE FROM THE FESTIVAL. Special thanks to BERMUDA TOURISM for arranging this opportunity.

Iwaynemiasobscrowd HOT 97's monthly WHO'S NEXT LIVE music series at SOB's has been blowing it up the last couple o' months. August saw us celebrate the release of I WAYNE's "Lava Ground" CD on VP Records. Helping to turn the night into a sold-out event was M.I.A., who popped in for a 2o minute set that saw MACCA DIAMOND joining her on stage. That's a picture of the sold-out crowd above (nice idea, those M.I.A. fans).

Hope I don't get in trouble for using the company phones to dial up TRL yesterday to help M.I.A.'s "Galang" make the jump from Pre-RL to TRL.

Last month, we had to shut the doors again  at SOBs when SMIF N WESSUN Smifnwessun1 (pictured here performing)celebrated the release of their DUCK DOWN CD, "Reloaded." Before the night was over, SMIF N WESSUN, BUCKSHOT (Black Moon), SEAN PRICE, HELTAH SKELTAH, O.G.C. and ROYAL FLUSH had all made it to the stage. An especailly early crowd came out to test drive the EA SPORTS TIGER WOODS TOUR '06 video game that had just dropped, competing on SOBs' 20' screen. Glad we had that good reason to bring Duk-ki to town so he could relive some glory days watching the Duck Down parade of stars on stage (and use up all my drink tickets).

Coming up this Tuesday (10/25) we're throwing another all-night REGGAE PARTY featuring a live performance by FANTAN MOJAH, celebrating his upcoming release on Greensleeves Records. The first 97 people are in FREE. And we'll have hostesses greeting party-goers with a FREE shot of Navan cognac. Looking at TRU LIFE and possibly SuNY for our November 22 date at the club. And December 13 is wide open right now. Any thoughts?

Al Roker joins CD101.9 NYC team
WQCD-FM NY "Smooth Jazz CD101.9" announced the addition of United Stations' syndicated weatherman Al Roker to the on-air team as Smooth Jazz CD101.9 Weatherman beginning 10/27. The daily weather forecasts will emphasize Roker's personality & tri-state CD101.9 weather forecasts, and will broadcast locally from New York where he resides. Said Roker: "I've always been a CD101.9 listener - - it's programmed on both my car radio and my home stereo - - so I'm really excited to be doing smooth weather for Smooth Jazz, CD 101.9. Now that we're heading into the winter, I get to forecast the big chills on the station that's New York's place to chill!"

HOT 97's Miss Jones welcomed her favorite current "discovery" to the show yesterday. I'm talking about LEELA JAMES.  Actually, I find I can't STOP talking about her. And that reminded me, I never thanked everyone who perfored at HARLEM DAY for us back in August. LEELA JAMES, I WAYNE, MIRI BEN ARI, YUMMY, CRUNNA, NICOLE HENRY, SHIHAN, and KIM FIELDS, who made a surprise appearance. It was an incredible day of music (as you can surmise from the line-up I listed). The artists wer all a pleasure to work with, especially patient (thank you, Yummy! And thank you, Miri! Miri had to leave the event as we were running behind to go down to Madison Square Garden to perform the National Anthem at an event that afternoon... and she raced back up to Harlem to perform. Good thing, too. Cause she tore it up for the crowd, wailing on her violin on stage alone 'cept for a dj playing hot hip hop beats).

Exitteennightakada Please take a moment to look at this picture. This is a recent teen night at Exit nightclub in New York City. And let me tell you, the opportunities at Exit never stop pouring in. HOT 97 partnered with AKADEMIKS on Oct. 9th for a teen night featuring SEAN PAUL. It was a holiday the next day and well over 3,500 teens packet the club. When AKADEMIKS presented their fashion segment, it was like JAY Z WALKING ON STAGE AT SUMMERJAM. That's how loud they were screaming. And the screaming got even louder when the male models began ripping off their tops. A great look for Akademiks, who also staffed tables in the entry hallway and on the 2nd level, capturing data for more of the night. Seriously, check out the picture. This wasn't later in the evening when Sean Paul was on stage. This was taken FROM THE STAGE DURING THE AKADEMIKS FASHION SEGMENT.

A few nights later (10/12), HOT 97 teamed up with BELVEDERE VODKA to present the YOUNG JEEZY BIRTHDAY BASH. Pouring rain didn't stop approx. 1,200 people from joining in the celebration at the club. The drink of choice that evening was the BELVEDERE COSMO (made all the more choice because Navan cognac was added to the mix).

Speaking of FASHION... HOT 97's 3rd annual FULL FRONTAL HIP HOP fashion & music event is going down Friday, February 3rd at Hammerstein Ballroom.  We sold out the room last year and this year should be no different. We've moved the date up so we coincide with Fashion Week, giving brands an opportunity to align with HOT 97 on what is now a signature event for the station. This will be promoted heavily throughout January. Last year the line-up of music talent included FANTASIA, DADDY YANKEE, T.I., OMARION, and FABOLOUS. With a guest appearance by JENNIFER LOPEZ. If you're on my list and you're in the fashion category--and no one's contacted you about this yet--don't hesitate to call me at 212-367-1641.

The Digital Life Expo took place Oct. 14-16 at Jacob Javits Center. This year, the organizers really let HOT flex some muscle for them and reigstrations jumped from 35,000 (last year) to 50,000 (this year!). HOT hosted an MC Battle on Saturday (10/15) that was hosted by Shani Kulture (aka "Sideshow" on our HOT 97 Morning Show), with DJ ENVY (also from the morning sh0w) mixing. Our panel of judges featured HOT 97's DJ KAY SLAY and COCOA CHANELLE + BIG JOE from New Era Entertainment and former BET hostess TIFFANY.

Crowdshot We were barely 5 minutes into the competition before security pulled me aside, concerned about... overcrowding. Reportedly our MC Battle outdrew the unveiling of the new Star Wars Battlefront II video game. Check out the picture here, taken from the back of the stage. And this was at a tech expo!! But we had some master MCs on stage. The winner, Nite (aka Murder Mama) KILLED IT, though. She brought the house down several times but it was one line in particular that DEVASTATED her competition: "I'm gonna leave you stranded/Like the black folks that voted for Bush." That did it. Game over. Kay Slay almost fell out of his chair when she dropped that line. Nite walked away with a $5,000 Grand Prize.  Nite is scheduled to be a guest on Miss Jones in the Morning tomorrow (Fri, 10/21). Special thanks to CAM'RON and JUELZ SANTANA for coming out and spending some time at the event meeting fans.

Speaking of Juelz... HOT 97 & Sam Goody welcome JUELZ SANTANA beginning at 4pm on Tuesday, 11/29 at the Sam Goody in Woodbridge Mall (Woodbridge, NJ). Signing copies of WHAT THE GAME'S BEEN MISSING, which drops the week before.

And this is just the beginning.

Trust me.

It's going to be  HOT winter.

08-05-05: HOT 97 PRESENTS KEYSHIA COLE, MOTOWN REMIXED,

"ANYTHING BY LLOYD BANKS!"

That was Funkmaster Flex's reply when I just bumped into him outside the HOT 97 studio. Flex is spinning Wednesdays at Club Phenomenon in NYC and I asked him what was firing up the dancefloor. Earlier tonight, FLEX presented a group of "Junior Kingpins" with checks in the amount of $2,000. These were the winners of the Coke Zero Junior Kingpin scholarship contest during Black History Month.

We'll be giving away tickets on the air beginning in the next few days. If nothing else, this gives me an excuse to re-run the picture of KEYSHIA with CYNDI LAUPER that I took at Club Exit several months ago. Always nice to be able to run a picture of Cyndi, anyway.

Our HARLEM WEEK line-up is coming together, although I'm still looking for one more CHILL act to perform as part of the CD101.9 NY CHILL portion of the event. Again, it's all going down SUNDAY, AUGUST 21. Confirmed to perform: LEELA JAMES, SHIHAN (poet), CRUNA, MIRI BEN ARI, YUMMY, I WAYNE, NICOLE HENRY and STEPHANIE COOKE. QUICK SHOUT-OUT TO SIX FROM THE HOT 97 MORNING SHOW WITH MISS JONES. Six was on the FRONT PAGE of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS yesterday. This was accompanied by a 4 page COVER STORY in their entertainment section. All about Six's highly-anticipated DVD release, "From the Hood to Hollywood." Six is the master behind HOT 97's phone pranks. Many of you outside the area will remember Six as the mysterious fifth member of the FOO FIGHTERS when they accepted their Grammy for "Best Hard Rock Performance" 2 years ago. [And for the record, Dave Grohl told Six, "You're cool." But also for the record, Six is no longer the fifth member of the Foo Fighters. He's moved on....]

KIRK FRANKLIN, CECE WINANS, HEZEKIAH WALKER, DONNIE McCLURKIN...and more. They'll all be at 98.7 KISS-FM's A NIGHT OF HEALING. Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Another event that SELLS OUT YEAR AFTER YEAR. For more information, go to A Night Of Healing Concert Info at 987kissfm.com. For sponsorship opportunities, just call or email me.

MICHAEL BAISDEN's "LOVE, LIES & LUST" took the airwaves by storm ages ago and shows no signs of abating. Syndicated in a growing number of markets as of the beginning of this year, you can find out what all the fuss is about on 987kissfm.com, where we offer snippets of some of the BEST OF MICHAEL's shows. Find out why Michael can infuriate an entire market of female listeners... but keep 'em coming back for more. I remember seeing Michael on stage at the Black Expo in NYC 2 years ago. As I headed toward the stage I was met by a stampede of angry women, many using the "f" word we can't say on the air, as in "f*ck Michael," "f*ck him," and "f*ck f*ck f*ck." But they walked off that anger and disagreement and turned right back around for another dose of Michael's unabashed opinionating. Go to The Best of Michael Baisden!

By the way, congrats to one of our sister stations, Q101 IN CHICAGO. They're running a contest called MY SHUFFLE. Listeners are invited to log onto www.q101.com, click on the MY SHUFFLE receptacle, and create their own set of 6 songs from the station's EXPANSIVE music library. If your set gets chosen, you get to introduce the set...ON THE STATION. And you get a pair of tickets to see MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE! Check it out. Go to www.q101.com and click on the MY SHUFFLE receptacle at the top. This is one of the hottest promotions I've seen in recent months!

MOTOWN REMIXED. CD101.9's RAFE GOMEZ, host of the syndicated THE GROOVE BOUTIQUE remixed Smokey Robinson's classic "A Quiet Storm" for this recently released 15-track collection on Motown Records, which also features remixes by DJ JAZZY JEFF, KING BRITT, DJ SPINNA, and HOT 97'S GREEN LANTERN among others. We'll be posting an EXCLUSIVE Q&A with producer HARRY WEINGER and RAFE cd1019.com next week.

NUMBERS TO NOTE: CD1019.com drew over 300,000 page views in July, with more than 47,000 unique visitors!

Finally... our Who's Next Live series continues August 23. Celebrating the release of I WAYNE's "Lava Ground" CD (out that day). The first 50 paid customers will get a FREE copy of the CD courtesy of Tower Records. Doors'll open at 8pm and the music'll start by 9pm. SOBs on Varick at Houston. We're looking at a number of local emerging and unsigned acts to do short live-to-track sets early in the night, leading up to a set by I WAYNE with a full band. Jaba's recording the spot this Sunday and we'll be live on the air with it beginning next week. It's already up on www.hot97.com. Our Sept. 27 date is open right now. Hoping to lock in TRU LIFE, who's getting so big on the street right now. Gotta thank GREEN LANTERN for recommending Tru Life to me (and DJ ENUFF for seconding that motion).

Everyone have a Great Weekend!
